MAC Alluring Aquatics Haul

I have had these products lying around for a wee while now, enough to have a good play and make some informed opinions on them, so this is kind of a haul/review in one.  When I first saw the Alluring Aquatics collection I wasn’t all that inspired and as I am meant to be on a slight spending ban (not going so well, lol) I didn’t rush to the MAC counter when this came out.  I also didn’t think the colours were suited to my current tastes but when I went to the MAC stall on a bit of a whim and did a little bit of swatching there were a few key pieces that took my eye and in the end came home with me.

Of course I had to get a lipstick, I am sure by now you will have noticed my love of lipsticks, so naturally that was the first thing I looked at.  I chose only 2 being, Mystical and Goddess of the sea.

In need of a lil moisture

Antipodes Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream

Its all about the 'Avocado Pear Nourishing Night Cream' right now!!  I love this stuff.  I was in the need for a new night cream, something that I could count on during the cold autumn/winter nights of NZ, as well as something that worked in with my philosophy regarding skin care.  90% of my skincare is organic based.  I'm a true believer in organic, fair trade, natural skin care providing a perfect barrier for the days harsh pollution, makeup and sun rays.  After a little research and the fact that Anitpodes is a NZ based company I was excited to give this a go and let me tell ya... I wasn't disappointed.

I had noticed that although my skin is combination normal to oily I was waking up feeling a little tight and dry so I had been on the hunt for a good staple in my nightly routine for a while and when I saw this little gem it was like the heavens opened, light beams and all.  It has all the things I was looking for, a night cream that not only nourishes your skin back to health, giving you a beautiful plump dewy look the next morning but also provides natural anti-aging properties.  Lets have a wee looksie at what Antipodes claims:

"Nature's anti-ageing by night, beautiful skin by day! There's no better way to resurrect your skin than with the superior restorative qualities of 100% pure avocado oil.  This facial night cream also features calendula oil from marigold petals, highly regarded throughout history for its healing and repairing properties"

Pretty big claims right?  Yea , i thought so too!  But their not lying!  This night cream is a thick, heavy duty cream that really sinks into your skin, settling in nicely and while it does leave me looking a little shiny, my sklin feels as though it has taken a nice long drink form a cool spring, refreshed and revitalised.  I am always surprised at how little is needed but a little goes a long way.

Lets get naked series #2

This week was all about matte shadows!!  Matte lips, eyes and even blush (paired with a good highlighter and dewey foundation).  I love matte eyeshadows and have really been enjoying using them for work.  Generally, I have slightly oily lids and find that if I wear shimmer/satin shades during a full work day (7-8 hours), the colours begin to fade and mix into the crease.  So when I am after a look that can stand true throughout the day I just prefer mattes.

Recently, I have been trying to use my eyeshadow palettes in rotation, this week was The Balms  - Meet Matt(e) Nudes turn and I have to say I forgot how much I liked this palette.

Today is just a quick post featuring some of my favourtie products this week (well the week ending 1/06/2014).  This week I have been leaving my skin alone so my makeup has been minimal to say the least (no base, nothing just the eyes).  Generally I have just been chucking on mascara and doing a simple, soft brown smokey eye, easy to just blend and go!!  Today I decided to put on a little tinted moisturiser  and added a little colour to my simple look of the week!
Some of the tools used to create my look today. Sleek Brow penci, Jordana Best Lash Extreme, MAC-Mangrove
This week I decided to use a beautiful palette that I have neglected for quite some time, Sigma's 'Creme De Couture' palette.  This is a fully matte palette, offering 16 shades inspired by macaroons.  To swatch these colours are pretty lovely but when applied to the eye you really need a good, tacky base such as the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in milk.  The colours that I used all week were the warm orange/brown tones (Apricot Flower, Passion Fruit - my fave shade, Ginger Pumpkin), they provide a soft feminine eye that can be deepened with the use of the dark brown Cafe Au Latte.  To make the look more dramatic for the weekend I used the Revlon Cream base (bronze shade) and then pack the beautiful passion fruit shade over the lid, this creates an amazing custom colour.  I then blended the other two shades mentioned in the crease and added a little bit of Cafe au Latte in the outter v.  To make the look pop, I layered Casis in the V and outter crease and highlighted my inner corner with the stunning milky violet - Lavender Honey (this brightens the eye perfectly).  To highlight my brow I used Meyer Lemon, it has subtle yellows that really heightens the brow!
