Autumnal favourites // beauty edition

Hi Sweets,
Makeup for me is like accessories to a fashion enthusiast, nothing beats a strong lip colour, good smoky eye and luxurious base.  With the full force of autumn and the sneaky cold tundra that is winter peeking its way through the autumn breeze, I thought I would share some of my seasonal favourites.

Lipstick:  There’s nothing like a good bold lip, right?  Well for me a bold lip is an all year ‘thing’, but there are two lipsticks in particular that I have loved this season.  They both invoke autumnal tones that warm the complexion and work with the most natural of makeup looks or the most striking.  Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet in 47 – L'amoureuse is the perfect berry toned lipstick, with a rosy undertone.  The Velvet formula is smooth, creamy and opaque, they have a soft satin/matte finish and are quite long lasting (approx.. 4 hours) and feel really nice on the lips.  Another colour that has been a constant in my handbag is NYX’s Butter Lipstick in Pops.  Pops, is a pinky brown nude with subtle plum hues, it has a cream finish and although it isn’t exactly nourishing, it is lightweight and feels really comfortable on the lips.  Because of its formula I do find that it transfers quite a lot and does need to be reapplied after drinking or eating, but it is the perfect ‘throw on and go’ lip colour.

Scent:  There is something so refreshing about autumn, the crisp morning air, the cool days and the subtle scents of fires being lit in the evening.  I love autumn and really like to use a scent that is just as refreshing.  Jo Malones – White Jasmine and Mint, is a fragrance that has quick become my favourite.  It is subtle, feminine and invigorating and my only complaint is that this fragrance doesn’t seem all that long lasting on me.

Jewellery:  I don’t usually wear much jewellery, a dainty necklace here, a simple geometric statement piece there; I like to keep it minimal.  However, it can be really fun to add a little interest to a very monochromatic outfit and the way I like to do that, is with personalised jewellery my friends!   I have been loving my Emma & Roe Charm Bracelet**, it’s the perfect way to compliment a dressy outfit or spice up a casual weekend look.  The dark blue glass charms aren’t too in your face and modernise/ freshen up any ensemble, while the sweet Chanel-esque perfume bottle, with its delicate cubic zirconia’s add a touch of femininity to my “brunching uniform” of jeans and a loose fit shirt! I love jewellery that can really show off your own sense of style and help you express yourself and what is more the royal blues tones and gold flecks mimic the rich colours of autumn!

Blush:  Blush is one of my favourite makeup products; it can instantly freshen up any look and for me is something I like to use to give some shape to my very round face.  This autumn I have been favouring Jouer’s mineral powder blush in Blossom.  An energising pop of coral, that gives a healthy colour to the cheeks, the perfect juxtaposition to the deeper colours of autumn.  To finish this cheek combo off I love to add a little Double-dip to really heighten my non-existent cheek bones.

Eyes:  I have mentioned this gem before, the Charlotte Tilbury luxury eyeshadow palette in Dolce Vita.  Dolce’s rich warm tones scream autumn and with its quick and easy 4 step smoky eye, you can’t go wrong.

Nails:  I don’t often wear nail polish.  Teaching isn’t always easy on the hands and with all the sanitiser and crafting that goes on during my day I only like to use nail polishes that last well and pack a lot of colour.  O.P.I’s nail lacquer in visions of love, is the perfect deep burgundy that looks equally as bold and charming on the fingers as it does on the toes.  And luckily on me, it lasts a good 4-5 days (without a top coat etc) before I go crazy pick every speck on polish off.
I would love to know what you have been using this season.  Do you have any nail colours I should give a go or maybe some eyeshadow that would be perfect for a rich autumnal eye?
